Fresno Tire Shop FAQs

What Is TPMS?

A car’s tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) is designed to alert you when the pressure in your tires falls below the recommended levels. An indicator light on the dashboard will light up, so stop and get your tires checked right away.

Is There a Standard Pressure?

Check your owner’s manual or inside the driver’s door for the recommended pressure. You can also ask any of our ASE-certified technicians for their recommendation.

Is Rotating Tires the Same Thing As Balancing Them?

No, these are two separate services, although they are usually done at the same time. Rotating tires makes sure all four tires are wearing evenly as they turn on the four wheel assemblies. Balancing tires ensures that the weight of each tire is distributed evenly among all four wheels, which is done by positioning small weights on the wheels.

Does a Flat Tire Need to Be Replaced?

Not necessarily. A tire can be repaired if:

    • The puncture is in the tread area and it is less than ¼ of an inch.
    • The puncture is not in the same place as a previously repaired area.

A new tire is needed if:

  • The puncture is between the outside tread of the tire and the sidewall.
  • There are gashes, cuts, or holes longer than ¼ inch.
  • A cut slices into the steel belt.
  • The tire has already been repaired in the same place.
